The Gaijin hazel park

It feels like we are eating sushi at a friend’s house in all of the best ways. The owner is incredibly friendly, hard working, and creative. The decor is lovely and it feels warm and inviting. More importantly, the food is very good! My wife and I ate the Age potatoes and tofu appetizers. The potatoes are to die for, and the tofu was fried perfectly. We each also tried the sushi, a few raw fish rolls and a vegetable roll. Everything was delicious and prepared right in front of us. Needless to say we will definitely be back!

Come support and show love! Only the owner here and he makes great food!! Always delicious when I come. He has special events like karaoke and open late nights! Definitely must try in the area. Don’t have to drive far. Located next to hungry Howies

A Must-Try in Hazel Park! The Gaijin is a great new addition to Hazel Park! delicious Asian fusion dishes. The food is packed with flavor — the sushi rolls and bulgogi are top-notch. The atmosphere is lively, The karaoke setup makes it perfect for a fun night out with friends. Great vibe and friendly service. Highly recommend!

Went in last night and the reviews were legit! I’m always looking for unique and passion-driven dining experiences, and The Gajin left me impressed. The owner/chef Remy was a pleasure and does an excellent job in the kitchen. He is not serving the trendy commercial asian-inspired food of today, but an authentic culinary experience that’s charming to the pallet!

Gaijin is an amazing local ramen and sushi restaurant. My brother and I went here and we have been trying to go back ever since. Food was freshly cooked, broth was light and savory, and the atmosphere was fabulous. I also need that recipe for the chili oil! The owner(s) should be proud for real. One thing that could be improved: Please update the times on Google Maps or have hours posted on the restaurant. It gets a little confusing knowing when to come or not. Maybe a neon sign to match the vibe or a hanging one to go outside?

Open late, unforgettable food, phenomenal conversation, and an unbeatable taste reminiscent of the years in Japan it took to fully master! And master it certainly did. It cannot be understated how amazing this ingenious little charming location is and promises to continue to be. Gaijin is an Asian-fusion restaurant with a revolving menu that, despite its nascency (opening very recently as of 2025!), offers incredibly bold flavors, irrefutable high-quality food, and a love of the craft that will leave anyone with an indelible appreciation similar to that which the owner and chef, Remy, has for Japan. The ambience was incredible, the serving size helpings were more than generous, and the smell wafting from the kitchen during meal prep was remarkable. It's a very low-key vibe, with the decorations unostentatious and very down-to-Earth making all feel welcome. We ordered the tonkatsu ramen with an egg on top (charmingly sunny-side up) and the teriyaki beef prime rib with white rice - and honestly, I shamelessly licked the last remnants of every bite from my teeth. The broth was warm and delectable, the meat was tender, the rice was fresh tasting and a terrific palette cleanser in between rich vegetables. Where was this chef during my childhood? He made VEGGIES flavorful and filling. I take no amount of shame in admitting I could not help myself but praise the food and experience throughout the night. And if you would like to learn exactly why, I cannot recommend enough coming out to Hazel Park and falling in love with the place as instantly as my husband and I both did. You will not be disappointed, and will leave envisioning plans for the next trip!

Great new spot. Will be back again and again. Great experience getting take out. Chicken was so tender. I want to try everything. I'll keep adding photos. I get it all as I can. Open extra late on Friday and Saturday >4am. Hit this after the bar whether a worker or drinker to get food. If you do karaoke for a whole song you get a free appetizer. Get drinks from the liquor place across the street and enjoy them with your food

Sushi, gyoza, spring rolls were all delicious The owner, Remy, is terrific and deserves some support. Small spot. Small menu (for now he says) Fresh and delicious. Check them out and show them some love!
